Easy Ways of Cleaning Wood Floors
I really think that cleaning the wood floors in your house shouldn’t be so much of a hassle. In fact, if you have the right attitude, it can even be fun. Not properly taking care of your wooden flooring, no matter what kind of wood we are talking about will make you have to often change it, which is quite a costly thing to do as far as I remember. These days, hardwood flooring is one of the most popular types and people are constantly having a bad time trying to get rid of dirt, stains and all the other particles which are causing marks and scratching. However, to be honest, I believe that the number of ways to clean wood floors is much higher than the methods to get them dirty. That’s why today I’ll ramble a little bit about some of the simplest and easiest ways of cleaning the wooden floors inside your beloved house. Remember that nothing makes you and your family feel better as a properly cleaned and repaired home. After all, east or west, a house with properly cleaned wood floors is best!!!
As a young kid I remember always enjoying sliding on the flooring in our house. We had wooden floors (I can’t remember what type of wood it was) all over the place and I simply loved playing around. However, sometimes I even managed to accidentally produce various scratches and marks that my father wouldn’t simply want to repair, in order to show me that we are responsible for the things that we do in our house. Time passed by and one day I kindly asked my father to teach me what can be done about the flooring and how can we clean them of those marks. Believe it or not, but I took all the initiative on my side as father claimed that it was my job, and after learning for several days everything I could about hardwood flooring and how to clean them I started my work. Guys, never rush yourself when trying to clean your floors because you can even produce more damage that it already exists. Do not look for shortcuts or “fast” solutions for fixing and cleaning your floors.
Most wooden floors have a special finish on them (a protective layer for protecting the wood from exterior damage). One has to be very attentive with liquids, even water, because if you spill it, you are in trouble. It will negatively affect due to the appearance of stains which can “help” in discoloring a certain area of your floor. How would you like something like that? However, besides just trying to stay any H20 based substances away from spilling them on your floor you should also not wear high heeled footwear because it will get you really ugly marks on your flooring and to be honest it is really hard to get rid of them using basic wood floor cleaning methods. Besides this, dragging heavy furniture all way around can dramatically scratch it and produce a lot of unwanted damage. Remember, protect your hardwood floors by first using some kind of clothing under the “legs” of the furniture in order to avoid direct contact which we’ll cause scratches and leave marks. Try to do everything attentively in your house if you are looking for those “easy” ways to extend the life of your wooden floors.
The first basic, yet easy way of cleaning wood floors is to regularly sweep them. Don’t do it quite often and don’t overdo it because sometimes it won’t be necessary to do it every single day. Do it several times per week if necessary, but you have to judge it on your own, based on the level of dust, dirt and other particles that tend to accumulate and might ruin the surface by either scratching or creating stains. One thing is important to notice here. Always remember is that wooden floor is what you are dealing with and they are quite delicate. Every single tiny particle of dirt can cause some damage since it acts like sandpaper grinding the surface. If you have pets (a dog or cat) you have to find ways to make them stay away from those places where the hardwood floor is highly accessible. Place rugs and nice carpets on your floor if you want to protect it, otherwise you’ll need to do something about the nails of your pets (which is not recommended at all by vets). So by sweeping your floor once in a while you can make it dirt less and contribute to its longer existence in the long run.
So while putting carpet in certain areas where you, your family and your pets hang out a lot seems to be a fine way to protect the flooring from damage, make sure that you don’t forget to clean and wash the carpets from time to time. Otherwise carpets can also cause stains and scratches by trapping a bunch of dirt in them and slowly but gradually grinding the floors. Mopping is another easy way of cleaning wood floors, but make sure you don’t use any chemical solution that is not recommended for hardwood flooring otherwise you can get in big trouble and create those stains which will be impossible to get rid of. After drying them, you can waxen them for a better look. It is also a part of the overall cleaning process done in order to make your wood floors look better. One great mistake that people often commit when trying to totally clean their floors is actually bleach them using cleaners of all kind. Guys don’t do it because you can easily discolor and even destroy the layer of finish. It is not recommended that you use any unknown cleaning solutions that you are not 100% positive about. You have been warned. When purchasing cleaners, make sure that you either read the label, the instruction or ask the person in that store if it is ok to apply it on the exact type of flooring that you have at home.
So these are basically the most popular easy ways of cleaning wood floors. No rocket science here. You just have to make sure to periodically sweep and clean your carpets or rugs if you have any. Besides this, mopping can have when having pets that like to hang outside a lot and then get it the house for sleep. Waxing and other cleaning substances will also provide good results, but make sure that you know what you are doing first. A small lack of attention can lead to very deadly mistake that will result in a bunch of stains and damage to your hardwood. Don’t bleach your hardwood using cheap chemicals because you’ll do nothing except destroying it. With that being said, go ahead and clean your floors, but make sure that you noted all our mentioned tips here!
