The Importance of Everyday Care when Cleaning Wood Floors

By Thomas

Preventing the appearance of scratches, stains, marks, dirt and dust is achieved at its best when taking care of your floor on a daily basis. Everyday care is extremely important if you want to reduce the overall time necessary for cleaning wood floors in your house. I’ve personally tested it and if the moments you see something wrong with your hard floors you immediately take action you reduce their potential of future damage and also reduce the necessary weekly time which is necessary for the cleaning process that most of the homeowners perform. So, while prevention is still king and we’ve talked about this in our articles about shiny floors, doing it each and every day, even if it might sound a little bit exhausting at the first sight is a good beginning.

I’ve read a bunch of interesting resources that “tend” to provide quality information about maintaining your wood floors in a good state by constantly cleaning them and when it comes to everyday care they claim that the only thing you need to worry about is sweeping and using your vacuum. However, if you are a constant reader of this blog you are probably aware of the fact that just making sure that there is no dirt on your shoes and boots when you come in and a little bit of sweeping might be enough to reduce the requirement to sweep or use special brushes and cleaning liquids. Everyday care is another little page in the prevention chapter of this whole deal of cleaning wood floors. Is someone doesn’t agree with what I say here feel free to criticize me in the comments below. To be honest I don’t intend to contribute to the damaging of someone’s floors; on the contrary…

Everyday care of your hard floors is going to reduce the total costs necessary for repair in the future. However, if you don’t have the necessary time for doing it on your own or none of your family members can actually do it, you can hire someone to take care of most of the things in your house, including the wood floors. If they manage to come by your house or apartment several times per week it is going to be enough to maintain your wood floors in a perfect state. This is what everyday care is all about. It means not letting your floors down one single day and when you notice a scratch or a particle of dirt to immediately repair it by either cleaning or any other special processes that we’ve talked about in the past here on the site. Mopping and the usage of wax might not be always necessary. However, in order to make your flooring look shiny you can mix some special cleaning substances and to attentively was it from time to time. I recommend doing it once a week in order to keep it sparkling. Another thing when having hardwood floor in your house is to be attentive with water and dry everything after washing.

I believe that certain knowledge is necessary before even installing the wood floors in your house. Color does matter a lot because this is what is going to indicate the necessary time-frame of the everyday care that you or someone else is going to be required to perform. Dark floors will make even the tiniest particle of dusts be easily seen and I’m sure that most of you don’t want something like this to happen. Sweeping several times per day might sometimes be really necessary in case you are really obsessed about perfect and shiny floors. However, dirt is also easily noticeable on other light colored and open wood floors as well. So what is the best way to go when selecting your hardwood flooring in order to be able to ease your work of maintenance, protection and cleaning in the future? Well, as always, going for something intermediary (hue) is what you should be looking for. Search for the golden middle when selecting the colors and you are going to reduce the total time of your everyday care.

Everyday care doesn’t mean advanced cleaning

When I’m talking about the daily cleaning of wood floors in your house I don’t mean that you should use wax or Murthy oil (a popular product for such flooring, simply used by diluting it with water and used during the washing process) regularly. These procedures can be done once a week and this is going to be necessary to maintain your wooden floors in a good condition. On the other hand, daily measures should be concentrated on prevention in the first place and occasional sweeping of the dirt and other unwanted sand that might get on your floors when you or your pets come from outside.

This is what everyday care of your wooden floors is all about and this is how it can contribute to the cleaning process.
